Every social platform has its own visual rhythm. A photo that looks great on Instagram can feel small and cramped on LinkedIn, and a horizontal banner that pops on X disappears on TikTok. The platform's aspect ratio is the obvious difference, but the visual style — the saturation, the focal point, the use of negative space — matters too.

This post gives you ten prompt templates, each tuned for a specific platform and post type. Copy, tweak, and generate them in the AI image generator.

Instagram (1:1 square, also 4:5 portrait)

1. Quote card background

"Soft pastel gradient, sunset orange to lavender, abstract, no text, no people, smooth, vertical 4:5 orientation."

Use this as a background; overlay your quote in Canva or Figma.

2. Product flat-lay

"Top-down photo of three ceramic mugs on a linen cloth, morning light, warm tones, neutral background, minimalist, commercial photography."

3. Reel cover image

"Single flower in a glass vase, centered, clean white background, soft shadows, high-key lighting, vertical 4:5."

LinkedIn (1.91:1 landscape)

4. Industry insight post

"Abstract 3D render of interconnected nodes in blue and gold, modern, minimal, professional, clean background, landscape orientation."

5. Personal brand hero

"Editorial portrait of a confident professional in business-casual attire, soft window light, neutral backdrop, calm expression, 50mm lens, photorealistic, landscape."

X / Twitter (16:9 landscape)

6. Tech post visual

"Sleek laptop on a clean desk, soft natural light, modern office in soft focus in background, warm neutral palette, photorealistic, landscape."

7. Announcement visual

"Bold abstract shape in vibrant red and white, modern, graphic design style, negative space on the right for headline overlay, landscape."

TikTok / Shorts cover (9:16 vertical)

8. Storytime hook

"Mysterious silhouette of a person walking down a foggy street at night, neon glow from a shop sign, cinematic, vertical 9:16, photorealistic."

9. Tutorial thumbnail

"Hands holding a phone displaying a colorful chart, blurred background, bright and friendly tone, vertical 9:16, photorealistic, energetic."

Facebook (1.91:1 landscape)

Tips for adapting these templates

Quick prompt-construction checklist

Before you hit generate, scan the prompt for:

  1. Subject — what is the image of?
  2. Style — photorealistic, illustration, 3D render, flat design?
  3. Composition — close-up, top-down, wide shot, centered, off-center?
  4. Lighting — natural, studio, golden hour, soft, dramatic?
  5. Color palette — muted, vibrant, monochrome, warm, cool?
  6. Negative space — does the layout leave room for text?
  7. Aspect ratio — does it match the target platform?

If a prompt is missing three or more of these, the result is usually generic and uninspired. The more boxes you tick, the more on-brand the output will be.

Save these templates somewhere handy — they'll keep paying off as your content calendar fills up.
